I'm really excited to share a new colourful floral linocut series of work with you. For those of you who've been following my prints for a while, you'll know I've always been drawn to the combination of portraits and botanicals. It's been a lovely journey and something I am sure I will come back to! but lately, I've felt the need to simplify things and let the beauty of nature really take centre stage.
That's where Bloomed comes in. This new series is all about celebrating the pure joy of florals. I've stripped away the portraits and focused on letting the plants shine. It's like giving them a moment in the spotlight!
The process has been so much fun. There's something incredibly liberating about carving directly onto the lino, letting the shape of the plant guide the design. I’ve been having fun playing with space, creating these little frames for the florals to pop out of. And those carved marks around the edges? Well, to me they are evidence of the process, like brushstrokes in a painting they bring energy and life… they are a non-negotiable!
I've also been experimenting with colour in a new way. Using colourful mulberry paper as a base has added a fresh dimension to my work. Layering different shades and then adding the bold black lino print creates a vibrant contrast. I've really enjoyed playing with complementary colours too – like purple on yellow – it's a visual treat!
Ultimately, this series is about slowing down, connecting with nature, and finding joy in the simple things. There's something so grounding about losing myself in the world of plants. I hope you can feel that in the prints.
I can't wait to share more of this series with you. You can see recent linocut artworks here
